Tehroma: Spaces Within & Without

Rooted in Baja

Tehroma’s relationship with Mexico is woven into the fabric of her life. Born in Oregon, USA, she spent her childhood traveling through Mexico before settling full-time in Baja in 1994. From living in Buena Vista to attending high school in La Paz, she forged lifelong roots and deep friendships with local families.

Her path in the construction industry began from the ground up. In 1994, she started by cooking for construction crews, eventually transitioning into office administration, bookkeeping, and working closely with corporate accountants. It was through this gritty, hands-on immersion in the field that she discovered her life’s true passion: design and architecture.

The Foundation of Architecture

From 2003 to 2022, Tehroma’s primary focus was leading a prominent architectural design firm alongside her business partner and husband, Javier. Her architectural mastery is both empirical and academic. Her foundation includes over six years of direct mentorship under a talented architect, 25 years of collaborative work with civil engineers, and earning her professional degree in Architecture from AIU in 2011. For nearly two decades, she shaped the physical landscape of her community, mastering the structural balance of buildings, walls, and roofs.

Where Structure Meets Mindfulness

In 2009, Tehroma’s dual passions beautifully converged when she designed, built, and founded Sukhasana Yoga & Pilates Studio—the very first yoga studio in her community. This milestone crystallized her life's philosophy: that physical structures can serve as sanctuaries for inner healing. She began teaching yoga and meditation within those very walls, planting the seeds for a thriving local wellness movement. Over the years, this sanctuary evolved, transitioning into a beautiful new boutique studio space known today as Sukha Shala in a new location.

In 2022, after years of leading her design firm, she chose to step back from the drafting table to immerse herself even deeper into the ancient healing arts. She dedicated three years to advanced studies, becoming a certified Mindfulness Meditation teacher (MMTCP graduate) and a dedicated practitioner of Thai Massage and Reiki.

A Dual Practice: Designing Inner & Outer Spaces

This intentional immersion completely replenished her creative well. Today, Tehroma enjoys a vibrant, multi-faceted practice where she simultaneously designs physical structures and guides inner well-being. She actively teaches mindfulness and yoga at Sukha Shala, offers transformative healing arts sessions, and runs her holistic architectural practice. She firmly believes that the environments we live, work, and breathe in are just as vital to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health as the space within our own hearts and minds.

Off-Grid Living: A Masterclass in the Natural World

In 2023, facing an empty nest, Tehroma and her husband moved with their small dog to a sustainably built Cob Casita, cozily nestled into a beautiful desert hillside. Living completely off-grid, surrounded by untouched nature with no neighbors in sight—and accessed via a bumpy three-mile dirt road—she found her ultimate sanctuary.

Living in harmony with the natural world allows her to listen deeply to the sounds of silence, birds, and breezes. This daily connection to the earth anchors both her personal mindfulness practice and the embodied presence she shares with her students, clients, and architectural designs.

Our Shared Philosophy: Unique, Beautiful, Livable

Tehroma brings this rare dedication to artistry, healing, and structural creation to every project and session she leads. Guided by the power of deep listening and true collaboration, her work is anchored by a simple, powerful promise:

  • Unique: Every architectural design and healing session is tailored organically to the individual's spirit and the land's natural contours.

  • Beautiful: Infused with artistic harmony, natural light, and the deep, silent aesthetic inspiration drawn from the local landscape.

  • Livable: Grounded in 30+ years of hands-on construction experience and nearly two decades of body-mind teaching, ensuring spaces and lifestyle practices are functional, comfortable, and deeply restorative to inhabit.
